20 runners, 20 walkers, 240 sponsors and even a specially invited band on the Hyde Park Bandstand brought the Ignathon 2014 to life on a sunny morning in central London in August. Ignathon 2014 was a fundraising ‘fun run’ organised by the staff and friends of Ignis, a London based Marketing & Communications Agency in aid of Empower a Child. It involved an international cast, with Wilson, Kim Saylors-Laster and her husband Mark flying to the UK especially to run, along with Scott from the UK team. Kim and Mark thank you so much for your wonderful gesture in supporting the special partnership between Ignis and Empower a Child.
25 staff members of Ignis – known as Ignites! - visited Uganda last year to initiate the Cattleshed project in Zirobwe. They came back passionate about continuing to support the children and families they had met and spent time with. Their energy was pumped into the 11km Ignathon, with a target to raise £11,000 towards the much needed development of agricultural, medical and school related projects in Uganda.
And the result? 40 people successfully completed the run and lived to tell the tale! The target was achieved with more to spare and a fantastic total of £13,320 has been raised. The organisers, Jack Wheeler and Theo Jenkins from Ignis were thanked for their hard work in preparing the event. Managing Director Stephanie Whitaker – a runner too! – and Wilson both commended everyone’s efforts including Empower a Child UK volunteer marshals, and of course, the superb band led by Bruce Welch!
An annual event in tandem with fun runs in the US, Uganda and Kenya next year maybe?
